“Entrance” Week at St. George!

Glory be to Jesus Christ! Glory forever!

Every year on November 21st, the Holy Orthodox Church celebrates Mary the Theotokos (“God-bearer”) being brought to the Temple at the age of three, in thanksgiving by her parents, Joachim and Anna. This is one of the Twelve Major Feasts of the Church, and it is incumbent upon Orthodox Christians to do their best to celebrate it. How do we do so?:

  • Attend Divine Services (schedule below)
    • If you cannot for some reason make services:
      • Read the appointed Scripture readings at home
      • Sing (or at least read) the festal hymnody
      • Read the synaxarion or other description of the Feast
      • Display the icon of the feast (you can always print a copy off the internet)
  • Mitigate your Nativity fasting w/ a festive meal and including wine/oil and fish
  • Greet loved ones and your fellow Orthodox with festal tidings
  • Treat the day like any other Sunday or Feast Day:
    • Take off work or school if you can
    • Spend time in rest and enjoyment
    • Have a family adventure or outing

Again, we should all do our best to participate in this Holy and Festive occasion.
